Riyadh, the capital city of Saudi Arabia, is a dynamic metropolis that has undergone significant transformation over the years. In 2002, it boasted a mix of modernity and traditional Arabian charm. The city’s skyline was dominated by architectural marvels, including the Kingdom Centre Tower, a symbol of Saudi Arabia’s economic prowess.
The city was known for its bustling souks, where traditional markets offered a vibrant array of goods, from spices and textiles to intricate handicrafts. Riyadh’s historical landmarks, such as the Masmak Fortress, provided a glimpse into the region’s rich cultural heritage.

Arrive at King Khalid International Airport. On arrival at Riyadh, you will be transferred to your hotel in Riyadh. Riyadh’s blend of medieval and millennial makes for a beguiling cultural union one where Arabia’s first roots can be traced, and where its bold future can be envisioned. The city’s fascinating, centuries-old history can be found within its atmospheric souqs, compelling museums, and ancient architecture, but it’s also a modern metropolis, with glittering high-rises and a burgeoning contemporary art scene. Evening you have free time to explore Riyadh (on your own)
Breakfast at your hotel. We depart to the traditional village of Ushaiqer after a two-hour drive. One of the most vibrant examples of Najdi architecture, Ushaiqer is typical of the central plateau of Saudi Arabia. Ushaiqer is one of the oldest towns, existing for “over a millennium” and it was a major stopping point for pilgrims coming from territories that are now Kuwait and Iraq to perform Hajj or Umrah in Makkah. We get the opportunity to roam its narrow alleyways that run between elegant traditional houses, palaces, and old mosques. We also visit a private collection of old antiques at a museum in one of the most beautiful old houses in the village. We conclude our visit from an impressive viewpoint overlooking the area. After that, we will have an authentic Arabian lunch (on our own) before returning to Riyadh.
Breakfast at your Hotel. We start our tour of mystic Riyadh by visiting the National Museum. The primary custodian of Saudi national heritage and culture, it is a place of learning and discovery that hosts a unique collection of artifacts and covers the whole history of the Arabian Peninsula right up to modern times. After that, we headed to the nearby Murrabba Palace which was the royal residence where King Abdulaziz hosted his court. The palace was named after it’s square 40 by 40-meter shape and is now one of the city’s main museums. Adjacent to the palace, a modern building hosts a collection of King Abdulaziz’s items which we will tour briefly. These places illustrate the heart of the birth of the Saudi nation.
